Tigers are 84th on third downs after going 6/12 against Coastal. While there were some positive signs on third and short (4 for 6), you have to wonder how Jamie Harper was stopped on 3rd and 1 early in the game. Also, two of these conversions were Kyle Parker scrambles – one on 3rd and 7 and one on 3rd and 5 – other than those two the Tigers were 0 for 6 on 3rd and 4 or more.

Year 3rd and 1-3 3rd and 4-6 3rd and 7-10 3rd and 11 or more
2008 60.71% 38.10% 20.69% 8.33%
2009 58.06% 34.38% 28.21% 20.00%
2009 18/31 11/32 11/39 4/20

The Tigers continue to mix in the pass nicely on 1st down in opponents territory for the 3rd consecutive week and now are almost a mirror image on the Tigers side of the field as when in opponents territory.

Down/Distance Field Position Run% Pass %
1/10 <=Midfield 64.2% 35.8%
1/10 >=Opponents 49 63.7% 36.3%
Total 64.0% 36.0%

Statistically the best offensive day of the year for the Tigers, as expected. Yet, even with the 49 point outburst and 113 (on offense) over the last three weeks the Tigers are still averaging less than 2 points per drive.

An efficient day of the season for the Tigers defense, but Coastal did have a long, time consuming drive for their FG.  It was against 2nd and 3rd teamers, but Kevin Steele wasn’t very happy with the Tigers effort.  This group is going to be tested by Florida State on Saturday.
